Where are they now? Fernando Redondo
Arguably one of the greatest unsung heroes to play in the famous white strip of Madrid, the Argentine twice won the Champions League along with two La Liga titles. After six years with Los Blancos, Redondo transferred to AC Milan where he only played 16 games in four years.
He became known as a man of many morals, refusing pay when he was injured, declining to cut his hair when ordered by national coach Daniel Passarella, but most famously – opting to sit out of Italia 90 to concentrate on his university studies.
Unfortunately as his career became plagued with injuries, the deep-lying playmaker had to retire from the game in 2004. He is now back in his native country commenting on sports news for a Buenes Aires based radio station.
