Where are they now? Mario Jardel

Bringing with him two European golden boots and a £1.5m price tag, the Brazilian-born centre-forward promised to set the Premier League alight when he touched down in England.

Jardel’s reputation stemmed from netting 130 times in just 125 matches for FC Porto but Bolton fans wouldn’t get to see anywhere near that kind of form – Allardyce’s coop only played seven league matches and failed to score in each.

After a year he was loaned out to Italian side Ancona where fans nicknamed him “lardo” for his physical appearance – then onto Australia where he partnered Michael Bridges upfront for the Newcastle Jets.

The three times Portuguese Player of the Year is still playing at the age of 37 and can be found with Atletico Rio Negro Clube – It’s his six club in the last three seasons.
