Who are ya? Seydou Doumbia
“Chelsea have been my favourite team since I was a kid,” claimed Doumbia. “It’s my dream to play in England – Moscow is too cold for me.”
Doumbia only joined CSKA in last January but has failed to settle in Russia. The move came about after the striker’s blistering form for Young Boys of Switzerland. The 22-year-old netted a mightily impressive 50 goals in 64 appearances – twice becoming the leading scorer in the Swiss league.
His goal scoring capabilities earned him a call-up for the Ivory Coast – leading to comparisons with Didier Drogba. A fairly small (5ft 10in) but bulky centre-forward, Doumbia does his best work in the opposition’s penalty area although he is partial to the odd wonder strike.
Despite not feeling at home in Russia, Doumbia has managed a healthy five goals in 11 appearances, showing that his real talent is scoring goals. Nevertheless, the Ivory Coast, who were coached by Sven Goran Eriksson at the last World Cup, deemed Doumbia only worthy of one substitute appearance in South Africa against North Korea.
Available for around £5m, Doumbia could certainly be worth a punt on in the January window – but we don’t think his destination will be Stamford Bridge just yet.
