Top 5 players in Serie A this weekend
First in on our “weekend of the braces” is the Juventus legend whose two goals looked to have sunk Catania until their late comeback. Truthfully, these aren’t exactly some of Del Piero’s best; a penalty and a second that just bounced off him. Well, they all count!
4. Alessio Cerci (Fiorentina)
Sadly the promising 23 year-old’s career seems to have stalled somewhat, a problem not helped by Fiorentina’s poor situation this season, which makes his two goals against Cagliari all the more pleasing. A quick turn and finish for the first was equalised by Cossu but Cerci squeezed another just under the crossbar and almost got a hat-trick but for a good Agazzi save.
3. Davide Di Michele (Lecce)
For someone hanging around a relegation battling team, Di Michele’s featured an awful lot on this list. On Saturday, the striker managed two goals – the first just three minutes in after being fed through by Ruben Olivera and the second from a corner – but they weren’t enough to salvage anything for Lecce in their 4-2 loss to Genoa.
2. Antonio Floro Flores / Rodrigo Palacio (Genoa)
Di Michele couldn’t salvage anything thanks to the work of these two, grabbing a brace each to give Genoa the win. Floro Flores’ goals were the better of the two – a good calm finish for his first and some good movement to ghost in for his second – although Palacio’s were just as important; a goalmouth scramble and a good header.
The Parma striker continues his good form since leaving Juventus with another two goals against an impressive Udinese squad. His first was a typical towering header and his second from a good run to beat the offside trap, complete with some muscling of a defender to protect the ball.
