Why this Italian defender is my dream signing for Arsenal

By on May 2, 2011 - 78 views

As most of you already now, I’m a huge fan of Italian international center-back, Giorgio Chiellini. Chiellini is my dream signing and I believe that he will do very, very well at Arsenal if Arsene Wenger goes for him.

Giorgio Chiellini was born in Pisa in August 14, 1984. He started his career at Livorno as a midfielder but eventually was turned into a tough defender. Chiellini is a tough, powerful defender known for his passion and strong will to win. He is a huge fan favorite in Juventus, with his no-nonsense style and willingness to fight to the end endearing the Juve faithful.

Chiellini is a 6ft 1in player who has made 166 appearances for Juventus scoring 19 goals. The Italian is known for being excellent in the air, tough on the tackle and is one of the hardest players to play against. If you want to see his aggressiveness, look back to when he injured current Arsenal star Robin van Persie when Italy played against Holland – in a friendly!

The 27-year-old is known for being a serious player and a strong leader. Whenever he’s injured, Juventus look vulnerable and fragile, that’s how important Chiellini is at his club and also to the national side. With Juventus now out of the Champions League picture, Chiellini might reconsider his future and look for new surroundings, even though Juve fans won’t like it.

Juventus are in a fragile economic state, and without Champions League football next season, Juventus might be looking to sell one of their biggest assets. the player is likely to be worth around £15m to £20m, but with Wenger’s reported budget for next season and his willingness to dish out the money on players he believes are worth it then that shouldn’t much of a problem.

Giorgio Chiellini, is considered one of the best defenders in the world and is highly rated by many, including me. I believe that he will be a great player for the Gunners if he joins – he is a top, top player.

What do you think? Do you want to see Chiellini as a Gunner? Do you have any other suggestions or transfer targets in mind?

Cheers and take care everyone,

A lefty who couldn’t play in a partnership with vermaelen and would cos big money?! Not a chance….

A top quality and commanding centre back would be great but one that would partner vermaelen, not be an alternative to him

I’m an admirer of Chiellini too. I think he would be a great asset for us. My only concern is,the Italian League is a lot lower then The Premier League and I think the pace and power of Premier League strikers aswell as the way the game is played might take Chiellini time to get use to. I do however believe he is a lot better the Cahill who I think is very over rated. Lets hope Wenger thinks the same way and actually spends some of this money were being told he has in his pockets this summer. We need a defender more then anything else.

i would love this to happen, not based on what youve been describing. he is that something extra that arsenal needs.

but in wengers mindset he is thinking about the centre backs he has now and for next season.

vermaelen (25) is probably the most solid centre back that arsenal have.

koscielny (25) is quite a good centreback as this is his debut season, once he has adapted to the premiership he will be class.

djourou (23) is very good in the air, and quick with his feet too. major development.

then we have squilachi who is there for the experience, even though he isnt the best defender he has made quite a few “face saves” for us.

i dont really count on the youth to be stepping up too soon until the team starts winning things.

but chiellini would add that extra bite to our defence and give the opposition something to think about!

GC is the right man for the job. After playing versus holland ,i realised he is strong on the tackle and on air.

If vermalen comes back fit next season we and we get chiellini we will have two left footed central defenders which doesn’t quite work for me

If this guy can do it’ so let wenger get him before any other club hear about him, becouse time wait for no one we can only wait for time to come.

Chiellini is a defender and a leader, i back arsene wenger buying based on his potential and not the example you cited(injuring van persie)

I think a defender should not be purchased based on his ability to commit fouls or injure others, what arsenal need is a leader, that has grit, character to mention few,Chiellini has these and more,

vaminator has these attributes also but it depends on his ability to stay injury free in the coming season.seb sculla was but bcos of his experience but fail to deliver.

Epl is play in more pace and tempo compare to serie A…

I personally hope he is not gonna be a failure…

i agree it would make a huge difference to us.if Wenger fails to bring in this type of quality centre back then im afraid it will be the same old empty season next season.

I’m glad you also admire Chiellini, I think you’re underrating the Italian League, as you need a lot fitness and stamina to survive in that league. I don’t think it will take Chiellini long to adapt to the Premier League, he’s well- built, strong, tough, and powerful, with a strong character.

He’s well built for the Premier League, he’ll be a great addition if he comes.

    Cheers and take care,

There is going to be a lot of clubs after Chiellini so I agree with you on that, if he becomes available for transfer, expect a transfer scramble for him.

erm who said the italian league is lower than the prem if you knew about football you would know the italian league is one of the most defensive leagues in europe most of the best defenders in the world come out of the italian league tahts why as a striker if you score over 15 goals in taht league its a big thing as a striker they dont play open games its all tactical build up im a huge chiellini fan i think he is exactly what we need him and tv would be insane!!!!

my only concern would be that he is too smilar to vermaelen. both are just about six ft tall. both are left footed. but he’s the level of quality our defense needs. maybe if we signed him we could move him or vermaelen to left back, because djourou and koscielny are too good to be buried on the bench

    May 3, 2011 at 3:26 am

Not convinced that Djourou is very good in the air at all. Perhaps compared to Vermaelen and Koscielny but the Arsenal defense is the worst in the entire league in the air, just look at the type of goals conceded (from set pieces particularly). That’s why someone good in the air and aggressive is exactly what we need.

I,ve been banging on about this bloke for the last few years now. I dont think that he would sturggle with the premier league at all, infact quite the opposite I think he is made for the premier league and he has arsenal writen all over him. My girlfriends Italian and the whole family are mad Juve supporters and as a result have seen him in many games and he always impress’s Quite quick reads the game well and is the rock we need in deffence, never seems to be injured, always vocal and never quits.

realy hope we signs him but I fear his price will be though the roof. the problem being he is to Juve fans what a messi or fabregas is to barcalona and arsenal. he is lauded over there and it would take some work to get him here. I cant say which clubs will be looking at him but if Wenger realy does gor him then he needs to be willing to break the bank for him.

Would take him over any defender in any league right now he is a beast of a player

Chellini would be a good addition to the squad. I would sell Almunia, Schillachi, Denilson, Rosicky, Arshavin, Bendtner and Vela. I would bring in Maarten Stekelenburg, Chellini, Goklan Inler, Edin Hazard, Darío Leonardo Conca, Radamel Falcao Garcia, Pappis Cisse.

notice Asernal are playing like Barca with The Midfield becoming more influential and few strikers. Hazard and Conca would great attacking options added to what we already have especially should Nasri and/or Fabregas exit…

Dont exactly agree with the previous writers. if Wenger happens to buy Chiellini, starter or not? Definately with that amount of money he cannot afford to put him on the bench. Either way, Wenger cannot start 2 left footed defenders, that would be catastrophic. Secondly, Chiellini is one of the top earners at Juve, Can Wenger afford to pay him over the odds and on top of that sit him on the bench? of course NO. So as we admire players, however good they are, we must consider various factors including but not limited to

    1. The transfer fee

    2. The weekly wages

    3. How well they can fit into the team

    Otherwise lets be honest.

Chiellini tremendous player just what Arsenal need, failing that I would go for Shawcross at Stoke.
