Alun Armstrong scored 11 goals in his first 14 games at Ipswich Town when George Burley captured his signature for £500,000 from Middlesborough.

He made an immediate impact, winning over fans by steering the Tractor Boys to a fifth place league finish. Goals included a last gasp winner at White Hart Lane, two in a 5-0 thrashing of Sunderland, but none more famous that the winner against Inter Milan in the Uefa Cup a year later.

Sadly his form dried up and he only found the net three more times in his next 55 matches with Ipswich.

The striker was then forced out of the game early at the age of 32, due to persistent injury problems, but now finds time to run a soccer school up in Wolsingham.
