Arsenal target two defensive starlets to bolster back four

By on June 9, 2011 - 66 views

Arsenal are targeting defensive pair Chris Samba from Blackburn Rovers and Gary Cahill from Bolton, according to the Mirror.

Both players have been heavily linked to Arsenal in the past with Samba reportedly close to a move to the Emirates last January. However, the deal didn’t go through and Arsene Wenger’s side were criticised for their lack of defensive organisation which ultimately cost them the Premier League title.

If Arsenal are to land the centre-backs however, Wenger may need to break his record transfer outlay with Bolton apparently wanting around £17m for Cahill’s services while Samba could cost as much as £10m.

Arsenal missed out on one of their defensive targets, Phil Jones, who decided to join Manchester United.

Wenger is wasting time. All that Arsenal need is 2 tall, strong& energetic central defenders,1rugged but discipline player defensive player & a good goal finisher that will patner Van Persie.

Herein lies the problem with English players verses others…£17m for Cahill (26 in December) while Samba (27 in March) could cost as much as £10m.

Similarities in age, 9 months difference. However Samba is the better overall defender with greater options,; yet Cahill is valued at £17m and Samba “could cost” £10m.

There is an unbelievable pricing difference between English players and those elsewhere.
