Arsenal, Liverpool chasing Porto defender

Arsenal and Liverpool are both in the race to sign Porto defender Alvaro Pereira, according to the player’s agent.

The Uruguay international, who recently celebrated success in the Copa America alongside Liverpool’ Luis Suarez, is wanted by the Premier League duo to solve their respective left-back births.

Arsenal have lost Gael Clichy to Manchester City while Liverpool aren’t keen on relying on young players to fill the position for the whole season.

“Right now we have registered interest from Arsenal and Liverpool,” said Pereira’s agent Luca Maurelli.

The player himself, added: “Liverpool? I do not know, I cannot say anything. My only wish is to celebrate Uruguay’s big win.”

Liverpool have also been linked to another Uruguay defender in the form of Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin.

    Buy both for God’s sake.

Buy Mata as well and I think we would be title contenders

I have been a fan of Alvaro Pereira and should the deal go through he will add more steel to our defensive play.

After watching that load of sh.te last night, we seriously need to sort out the defence, a blind man can see that. What the hell are we waiting for?, if we go into season with no new defenders we will struggle, mid table at best, buying henderson wasnt a priority, good player he maybe for the future, but we need players now to get into champs league, so we cant attract quality. We have paid way over the odds for the players we have, with the exception of suarez and adam. Thinks suarez would easily command 40mil right now, thats how good he is. So come on kenny if were getting defenders get them asap, season starts soon and we need a good start. There should be money in the kitty, the owners got liverpool on the cheap, so should have plenty over for transfers, 44 mil so far is not much in todays modern game, might be a lot for small teams like everton, but not for a club like ours. If fsg mean business, then get the cheque book out and buy quality

livpool first mistake this season is acquition of henderson.we should have use the money 2 buy mata or hazard hence we hav more better option at our MD.our #40mil sumer budget is not enough but we could hve use it more wisly than buying inflated english,we ned gud left back and find ourself in precarios fnancial position wherewe must sel b4 we buy.Secondly,Carol is a masive mistake, overated and overprized.he is too dull and wil slow suarez attackng mentality wen partnerd wth him.we could hve use these money spent on these crap to do good busines abroud.i fear for my dear club

we need reinforcement in our defence. Buy jagielka, pereira, mata as fab or nasri replacement. Then young talent so that we can bring them up. In wenger we trust.
