French international midfielder ready to turn down Arsenal move
Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena has claimed that he would like to stay in France despite reports linking him to Arsenal.
According to talkSPORT, Arsenal have held a long-term interest in French international Valbeuna and were considering a summer swoop for the 27-year-old.
However, Valbuena claims that although Marseille finished mid-table in Ligue 1 this past season, he is ready to stay on at the Stade Velodrome and see his exisiting contract out which runs until 2014.
“I will remain faithful. I did not want to leave the club like that, finishing tenth,” Valbuena is quoted by talkSPORT.
“I am very much attached to the club. It’s hard to leave. There are disadvantages to that but benefits too.
“Even without the Champions League next season can be exciting. At Marseille we cannot talk about transitionary seasons, but there is everything to succeed. I feel good even if that is a bit contradictory with the season we have just had.”
Arsenal have also been linked to another French international midfielder in the form of Rennes’ Yann M’Vila.
