Lille star Mathieu Debuchy has demanded a move to Newcastle United, according to The Sun.

The French right-back alerted Toon chief, Alan Pardew during the European Championships, but he faces stiff competition for the 26-year-old’s signature from Inter Milan.

Despite this, Debuchy has declared that Newcastle is his preferred destination, and has pleaded with his current employers to let him complete a switch to St. James’ Park.

He said: “My priority is to join Newcastle, although Inter also enquired about me.

“I am committed 100 per cent to the fact I want to leave Lille, I want to discover another championship.

“The coach wants to keep me and I will not change his mind, but I will do everything I can to move elsewhere.”

However, Lille boss Rudi Garcia has declared that he has no intention of letting the defender leave the club until a replacement has been found. “If we cannot find a new player, then Mathieu is under contract,” he said.

A right-back is believed to be top of Pardew’s list of priorities this summer, as he looks to prepare his squad for another impressive season.
