Chelsea close to landing Marseille defender
Chelsea are very close to agreeing a deal to sign Marseille right-back Cesar Azpilicueta – reports in the Daily Mirror are claiming.
The Blues need defensive reinforcements having released Jose Bosingwa and it is reckoned that Roberto Di Matteo believes the Spanish defender would bolster Chelsea’s defensive options.
Marsielle president Vincent Labrune is claiming the Stamford Bridge have already tabled a ‘very serious offer’.
Speaking to ESPN, Labrune said “I have spoken to Chelsea’s chief executive and they are easy to deal
“We have told them the price and they will come back and agree it or not.
“We would much prefer the player to sign a new contract and stay but he wants to go to Chelsea and it’s a good club so we cannot stand in his way.”
Marsielle may be willing to cash in on their want away star so that they themselves can fund their own new signings ahead of the upcoming Ligue 1 campaign.
