Arsenal set to miss out on another transfer target
Arsenal look set to miss out on Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa as AC Milan and Napoli have joined the race to sign the Frenchman, claims The Mirror.
The Italian pair are both keen to bolster their defensive options ahead of the coming season and, although they are reluctant to sell, Montpellier are expecting a number of offers for one of their star players over the coming days.
The news is likely to irk Arsenal fans yet further after Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin was allowed to join Liverpool on loan ahead of a proposed switch to the Emirates.
Whilst Arsenal have a healthy bank balance after the £24m departure of Robin van Persie to rivals Manchester United, it is understood that Yanga-Mbiwa’s price tag may put Wenger off making any bids.
The French defender can play at either centre-back or right-back, an area of the field Arsenal are keen to strengthen. The Gunners have also been linked with a shock move for Swansea’s Spanish right-back Angel Rangel. However it is thought that Swans manager Michael Laudrup would be reluctant to do any deal.
