Cameroon international latest to arrive at QPR

After being left out of the Marseille squad that will face Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League tie this week, midfielder Stephane Mbia is closing in on his protracted switch to Queens Park Rangers, according to talkSPORT.

With stars Alou Diarra and Cesar Azpilicueta departing the Velodrome for the Premier League with West Ham and Chelsea this summer, Mbia is set to become the third after a swap deal with Joey Barton was seemingly agreed after reported initial hitches.

Twenty-six-year-old Mbia is versatile and can play at centre-back in addition to his preferred defensive midfield berth and would provide direct competition for Samba Diakite and Shaun Derry in that holding role.

Mark Hughes has radically overhauled the QPR personnel in the window but the Loftus Road-based club still await their first victory after a thumping 5-0 home defeat to Swansea City on the opening day and an away draw to Norwich City – although they did pick up a victory in the Capital One Cup.

QPR completed the high profile signature of Brazilian international goalkeeper Julio Cesar on Wednesday and they look set to follow that up with the equally impressive addition of Cameroon international Mbia.

Barton’s move to the south of France is expected to be announced before Friday’s transfer deadline.
