Newcastle United defender attracting Serie A interest
AS Roma could make an approach for young Newcastle United full-back Davide Santon in January, according to TalkSport.
The 21-year-old left his homeland for the Premier League in 2011 when he signed from Inter Milan but has since been linked to return to Italy after struggling to hold down a regular first team slot during his debut campaign.
Roma’s director of football Walter Sabatini is thought to highly rate his fellow countryman and is reported to have made a bid during the summer which was rejected. However, Sabatani now looks set to test Newcastle’s resolve once more with another bid in the January window.
Nevertheless, Newcastle may be reluctant to sell the starlet after he impressed for Alan Pardew’s side this season and Santon himself has expressed a desire to remain in England for the foreseeable future.
If Roma fail to persuade Santon to leave the Sports Direct Arena they may look at former Magpie’s target Mathieu Debuchy who was very close to making the move to the North East during the summer.
