Arsenal face Barca challenge for top Ligue 1 defender
Spanish giants Barcelona are keen to sign Arsenal target Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa from French champions Montpellier, according to talkSPORT.
The defender, who currently captains Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier, has been on Gunners boss Arsene Wenger’s radar but could be set for a move to the Nou Camp instead.
Arsenal’s Wenger will be sick of Barcelona hijacking his quest to build a trophy-winning team at the Emirates stadium having already lost the likes of Thierry Henry, Alex Song and Cesc Fabregas to the Catalan club over the past few years.
Newcastle United have also been linked with Yanga-Mbiwa and the centre-back his highly thought of across Europe. It is unlikely that the player will still be with the club past the next transfer window.
Yanga-Mbiwa has already played against Arsenal this season in the Champions League – a match his side lost 2-1 with the second encounter at the Emirates to come.
