Chelsea ready to chase French international for Torres competition

Chelsea are ready to pursue Marseille striker Loic Remy this January in order to provide competition for primary centre-forward Fernando Torres.

According to talkSPORT, the Blues want to strengthen their attack in the next transfer window – despite splashing out on a whole host of talented playmakers last summer – to help boost their scoring charts.

Torres, 28, has started to find form for Chelsea this season with two goals in his last two Premier League outings against Arsenal and Norwich City but it appears that boss Roberto Di Matteo is yet to be convinced that the Spaniard is his long-term solution.

Remy, a French international, is three years younger than Torres and has been a regular goalscorer in Ligue 1 over recent seasons – although his club Marseille finished a disappointing 10th last time out.

Chelsea have also been linked to an interest in Atletico Madrid’s explosive striker Radamel Falcao but the Colombian may prove too costly – even for the riches of owner Roman Abramovich.
