I See Ivan Perišić at Manchester United, Says Šimić
Former-AC Milan defender Dario Šimić believes that Internazionale star Ivan Perišić is good enough to play for the biggest clubs in the world and feels he would fit right in at Manchester United.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from San Siro with a host of clubs rumoured to be interested in his services, including Premier League giants United, Liverpool and Arsenal.
Perišić has scored seven goals for Inter this season with the club having put a difficult start behind them to move into fourth in the Serie A table under coach Stefano Pioli.
Dario Šimić says that the Croatia international has what it takes to play at Old Trafford and was surprised a move did not materialise back in January.
Šimić told Croatian outlet Vercernji:
“At Inter our guys Marcelo Brozović and Ivan Perišić play a key role.
“I expected Perišić in the last transfer window to go to one of the big European clubs. He definitely has enough class for the greatest clubs – I see him at Manchester United.”
Manchester United are expected to spend heavily again this summer, despite bringing in Paul Pogba for a world record fee last year.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a big-money move for Atlético Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and José Mourinho has stated he could bring in up to four players.
Ivan Perišić is undoubtedly a quality player, a tricky left forward with an eye for goal. Although with Anthony Martial, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford all options out wide he may not be a priority.
While Martial’s future has been the subject of much speculation, the France international has impressed after being handed game time, particularly in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Watford.
The club are also reportedly set to pay AS Monaco another £8.5 million when Martial scores his next goal for the club, due to a clause in his contract, which makes it seem unlikely the club would be willing to let him go just yet having invested so heavily.
Similarly, Mkhitaryan has overcome a difficult start to life at Old Trafford and has transformed himself into one of the club’s most dangerous attackers. Though he has spent more time on the opposite flank.
The potential arrival of Griezmann will also increase competition for places in the United attack with the versatile Frenchman able to play anywhere across the front three.
