Atlético Madrid’s Interest in Sánchez Spells Good News for Man Utd’s Griezmann Hopes
Alexis Sánchez and Arsenal are yet to agree terms regarding a new contract, with the talented Chilean having little more than one year left to run on his current deal at the Emirates. That has led to some of Europe’s elite showing an interest in the 28-year-old, according to reports.
Recent reports in Spain are now suggesting that the latest club to throw their name into the hat are La Liga giants Atlético Madrid. Diego Simeone’s side could well be the perfect fit for Sánchez, as he fits their mantra and style of play.
However, we want to look at it from a different perspective. Although Madrid’s fans will be purring at the prospect of acquiring such a talent like the Chilean international, they should be worried about the possibility of losing Antoine Griezmann, because Sánchez would feel like a direct replacement.
The talented Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United recently, and the Red Devils’ hopes of signing the 25-year-old could have been massively boosted by this news about Sánchez.
If the board at Old Trafford gets the sense that Alexis Sánchez could be seen as a potential replacement for Griezmann at the Vicente Calderón Stadium, then this could urge Manchester United to push even harder to land their target.
Antoine Griezmann is one of the most dynamic attackers in the game at the moment, and it’d be an absolute privilege to watch him ply his trade in the Premier League for Manchester United. He’d fit into José Mourinho’s tactical system seamlessly and he’d bring that extra bit of cutting edge and pace that could further add to an already speedy front line.
You also have to factor in that Zlatan Ibrahimović still hasn’t put pen to paper on a new contract and if the influential Swede does decide to move on, United would have to bring in someone who can replace his goals. Griezmann has already scored more than 20 goals in all competitions this campaign, boasting an almost identical record to Ibrahimović in that regard.
