Barcelona “could sign” Chelsea target this summer

Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Braut Haaland is expected to be hot property in the summer transfer window.

The Norwegian striker has just started his third year in the German Bundesliga, but remains trophy-less whilst being wanted by many of the biggest clubs in the world.

Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City have both been strongly linked with a move for the 21-year-old in recent times.

Pep Guardiola has yet to replace Sergio Aguero as an out-and-out striker at the Etihad Stadium last summer. The club legend left on a free transfer to FC Barcelona before retiring through injury just months later.

Chelsea could also be in the market for a new striker this summer as Romelu Lukaku recently hinted he wants to move back to Serie A giants Internazionale.

Erling Haaland is expected to be the number one target for the two aforementioned English sides. However, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague believes the Scandinavian will join Barcelona instead.

The striker is believed to have a €75 million (£62.6m) release clause activating in his contract this summer, making him affordable to the Premier League sides and several other of Europe’s giants. However, Barcelona are €1 billion in debt themselves.

Despite this, Ballague believes the Catalan side could still pull off a deal. He told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Euro Leagues podcast:

“Barcelona need to get rid of big wages and big players, but it’s possible and they’re confident they can do it.”

Raising cash isn’t unrealistic – the La Liga side currently have Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Trincao (Wolverhampton Wanderers) and Miralem Pjanic (Besiktas) out on loan, all of which could turn into permanent deals over the summer.

Philippe Coutinho, Martin Braithwaite and Samuel Umtiti are three other players on the books at Camp Nou that could be moved on to make space for Haaland.
