Derby County will be looking for a huge favour from Wayne Rooney’s former club Manchester United as they have been strongly linked with one of their youngsters.

The Rams are 11 points adrift of safety in the EFL Championship as Rooney is looking to mastermind a miracle despite a 21-point deduction, transfer embargo and his team’s best player being injured all season so far.

With many of the Derby transfer stories being about players linked away from the club, many on free transfers, there has been one story over the past couple of days to fill fans with hope.

12 months ago the Red Devils signed highly-rated teenager Amad Diallo in a €25 million deal from Atalanta, with the potential to rise to €40 million with add-ons.

The young Ivory Coast international has failed to make much of an impact in the first team, under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick. Subsequently, he is being linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford this month.

Derby’s name had been initially linked but now the East Midlands club face competition from one of Germany’s biggest clubs – Borussia Dortmund.

According to the Derby Telegraph, the Bundesliga outfit have joined the list of interested suitors, which also includes Feyenoord and Birmingham City.

Dortmund have had an excellent record over the past decade of so of developing youngsters into some of the elite players in the world, including Robert Lewandowski, Mario Gotze and Mats Hummels. Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham are the latest crop of outstanding youngsters they have on their books.

Would a loan move to Dortmund be best for Amad Diallo for the second half of the 2021-22 campaign? Or would he be better served staying in England and learning the English style in the second tier?
