The Premier League returns to action following a two-week hiatus for cup competitions, with a few cracking fixtures scheduled for this weekend.

Let’s dive into our preview and predictions for Matchday 22. Whether you’ll be watching the games on TV or catching soccer streams online, there are several unmissable games this weekend.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Crystal Palace

Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace are set to exchange tackles in the latest installment of the M23 derby between the two mid-table Premier League sides.

Graham Potter’s team rescued a point in an intense 1-1 reverse fixture at Selhurst Park, courtesy of Neal Maupay’s 95th-minute equaliser, making it five top-flight H2Hs without winning (D3, L2).

The sides have experienced contrasting fortunes at the start of 2022, with Brighton beating Everton 3-2 and Palace losing to West Ham by an identical scoreline.

Prediction: Draw

Manchester City vs Chelsea

Sunday’s Premier League action kicks off at the Etihad with a mouth-watering showdown between pacesetters Manchester City and current runners-up Chelsea.

With a staggering ten points separating the sides ahead of the kick-off, Man City’s victory in front of the attending home fans would likely throw the London giants out of the title race.

Pep Guardiola’s team eked out a narrow 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge in the reverse fixture and could now pull off their fourth top-flight double over Chelsea.

Prediction: Manchester City to win

Burnley vs Leicester City

Relegation-battling Burnley will look to breathe their salvation hopes a fresh set of air when they take on mid-table Leicester City at Turf Moor.

However, after going winless in their last seven Premier League outings (D4, L3), the Clarets will take the field as betting underdogs despite the visitors’ patchy form.

Brendan Rodgers’ men closed 2021 out with a 1-0 home win over Liverpool before a COVID-19 outbreak at the King Power Stadium forced the postponement of their last two league matches.

Prediction: Leicester City to win

Newcastle United vs Watford

Encouraged by the January arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, Newcastle United will be seeking a fresh start following a dreadful first half of the season.

Thrilled for Wood’s arrival, manager Eddie Howe has heaped praise on the ex-Burnley striker in the build-up to this clash (via Hertfordshire Mercury).

Coming into their home encounter against fellow relegation strugglers Watford, the Magpies have gone winless in four Premier League games in a row.

But with the 18th-placed Hornets only two points above, a potential win at St James’ Park could catapult Howe’s side away from the drop zone.

Prediction: Newcastle United to win

Norwich City vs Everton

Time is ticking for basement boys Norwich City as underperforming Everton arrive at Carrow Road for a meeting between the two out-of-sorts sides.

Winless in their last eight league matches (D2, L6), the Canaries seem to be sinking without a trace.

The same could be said for the Toffees, who have failed to win any of their last three top-flight fixtures (D1, L2) and currently languish in 15th.

Prediction: Both teams to score

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Southampton

The two teams that have experienced identical fortunes from their last three Premier League games (W2, D1) are set to trade tackles at Molineux.

Despite earning a reputation as the ‘entertainment killers,’ Wolves are still very much in contention for a European finish.

Meanwhile, the Saints are now safe in mid-table comforts after a run of four Premier League matchdays without losing (W2, D2).

Prediction: Under 2.5 goals

Aston Villa vs Manchester United

Manchester United will hope to build on a 1-0 FA Cup over Aston Villa on Monday when old foes lock horns at Villa Park in an exciting Premier League match-up.

Steven Gerrard’s men stunned Old Trafford in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and could win back-to-back league H2Hs for the first time since 1976.

To do that, Villa will have to defy a humiliating 22-game winless run in home league H2Hs (D7, L15), last beating United in home league action in 1995.

Prediction: Both teams to score

Liverpool vs Brenford

After an uneventful scoreless draw with Arsenal in midweek Carabao Cup action, Liverpool will aim to get back to winning ways against the Premier League debutants Brentford.

Without several key first-team players, including Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, the Reds could face an uphill task of improving on their action-packed 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture back in September.

Liverpool can find comfort in Brentford’s underwhelming away league form, with the Bees failing to win any of their last six top-flight travels (D2, L4).

Prediction: Liverpool to score over 1.5 goals

West Ham United vs Leeds United

West Ham United cruised past Leeds United in their FA Cup third-round tie last weekend as Manuel Lanzini and Jarrod Bowen navigated them to a landslide 2-0 victory.

After winning their inaugural three competitive fixtures in 2022, the Hammers will feel confident of clinging on to fourth in the standings, having leapfrogged Arsenal with a 2-0 win over Norwich in midweek.

Meanwhile, the Whites could win back-to-back Premier League games for the first time this season following a 3-1 triumph over fellow relegation candidates Burnley last time out.

Prediction: Over 2.5 goals

Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal

An all-London encounter between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium rounds off Sunday’s Premier League action.

Led by the charismatic manager Antonio Conte, Spurs have put together eight league matches without defeat, reducing the gap on the Premier League top four to just four points in the process.

Meanwhile, Arsenal started the new calendar year with a whimper rather than a bang, turning a 1-0 HT lead into a 2-1 reverse against reigning champions Man City on home turf.

Prediction: Tottenham to win
